Elephants

Welcome to the world of wildlife!!!!! Today we will be introducing the first gentle giant in this post, they are the ELEPHANTS!! They are the biggest land animals to roam the Earth. Weighing at an average of 6-8 tons, the elephants eat about 700 pounds a day! Every body part of the elephant is unique.

Trunk: The trunk is a special nose, one that can reach out like a hand and grab onto anything. They also use this handy nose to protect their family from predators. Sometimes, they can use it as a natural shower, that is one way that the elephants wash up so quickly.
Tusks: The tusks are the biggest teeth in the world, they are pure ivory, which makes them extinct, since hunters kill them for their teeth. One tusk can way up to about 200 pounds! Instead of killing them for their ivory, we should enjoy their full beauty, instead.
Ears: There are elephants in areas which are warmer and more humid then other places. But, the elephants' ears are so big, that they are a fan that they flap, from keeping them to be hot. Some times, by looking at an elephant's ear shape, you can tell whether or not if it is an Indian or African elephant. If it is an African elephant, the ears are slightly curved in the shaped of Africa. If it is an Indian elephant, its ear kind of look like the shape of India.
Feet: In the footprint of an adult elephant, us humans can probably print at least 7 average sized footprints.
Family: Elephants usually stay in herds, when they lose a member, it is almost like a ceremony for their loved one. They can live up to 70-75 years.
Eating & Drinking: Elephants have 24 teeth and we have 32. They eat leaves, fruits, vegetables and other vegetarian meals. And, as I said in the beginning, they eat about 700 pounds of food.
Fun Facts

  • These animals take mud baths to cool off in the hot, humid weather.
  • In India, Elephants are painted for festivals, this respects these beautiful animal specie.
  • Bird help insects get off the elephants, by looking in the elephants' skin and searching for any bugs.
  • Elephants have a great memory, after looking at a relative and then seeing them after decades, they would still remember that elephants relative.
Elephants are smart and beautiful animals. But now, they are endangered animals, there used to be about 6 million elephants, now because of hunters, there are about 400,000 elephants. We need to save this wild specie!
I will be posting every other week, or every month
